Manuel Boden uses a vast variety of media not only in his artistic execution and production, but also in obtaining his source material. Collecting is a central motif in his work, which ranges from video and photography to the production of artist books and zines. 

Wether extensively researched, meticulously sorted found footage videomaterial or physical items, chance finds, extracted from their original context of use, everyday life and privacy, to be recontextualized through combination, subtle modification or shifts in focus - there is always an preceding element of searching for traces (haunting the final form of his work). The diversity of his materials is balanced out by recurring reflections on appropriation, multimedia, archival preservation and transience in society as well as in artistic practice. 

He graduated from the Academy of Media Arts Cologne with honours after studying under Prof. Matthias Müller, Prof. Johannes Wohnseifer and Prof. Lilian Haberer.
